Thief on a rampage for gold bracelets jailed

Six years jail for 'bracelet theif' Claudio Mallia

Claudio Mallia from Valletta was jailed for six years, admitting to having stolen a total of 19 gold bracelets on different occasions after attacking eight elderly women.


Mallia, 27, admitted to stealing four gold bracelets belonging to Doris Debono, 67, of Msida, after attacking her on June 1 at 7.45. Later in the month on June 28, Mallia stole three bracelets from 81-year old Vincenza Camilleri, and one bracelet from Maria Baldacchino Borg, 78 in Hamrun the day after.


On July 1, Antonia Zammit, 75, of Hamrun was attacked and robbed of four gold bracelets, while a day later, Dolores Camilleri, 88 of Floriana was injured by Mallia who stole two gold bracelets.


The last cases appeared on July 6 and 7; with two bracelets stolen from Maria Baldacchino, 75, of Blata l-Bajda and three bracelets stolen from Dolores Fauzza, 73, of Hamrun, respectively


Only on one occasion did Mallia opt for an alternative piece of jewelry, where he stole a necklace on July 5 at 7 a.m. from Maria Abela in Blata l-Bajda.
