Zaren recommended for Opera House €373,000 restoration works
Vassallo Builders Group has been recommended for a €373,000 contract on the City Gate Project.
General Workers Union organ l-orizzont’s front-page splash reports that Nazzareno Vassallo’s construction firm is in the running for the €373,000 contract to restore the remains of the Royal Opera House in conjunction with the City Gate project.
MaltaToday last Sunday revealed that PN secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier had just been on holiday with Vassallo, on board his new, 75-foot yacht Perla, to Sicily.
L-orizzont reports that Chris Paris, chairman of the Grand Harbour Corporation, which is responsible for the regeneration of the harbour area, issued the recommendation that the cleaning, restoration and works on the Royal Opera House should be awarded to the Agius, Camray and Vassallo joint venture, which the maximum 100% points on technical and financial (60% and 40% respectively) criteria.
Another three companies bid for the works, namely Vaults Co. Ltd, Martino Solito Attard Restoration, and Conservation of Malta JV.
The Vassallo Builders Group is also the civil works contractor for Danish firm BWSC, the controversial firm that will build the €200 million extension for the Delimara power station. In the face of serious allegations of corruption – as yet unproven but never criminally investigated – and confirmed irregularities in the tendering, the government has stood by its decision to go ahead with the 144MW extension.

One more contract and you would get back the cost of the yacht plus your entertainment budget!. Hey - why don't we put Zaren's yacht on the opera house site and be done with it? Zaren - it's our tax payers money you are wallowing in - are we getting an invite soon?

Compensation!
I suppose €373,000 should more than compensate for having to share his yacht with the PN secretary-general Paul Borg Olivier. No surprises there then!
