Reporter on TVM will tomorrow discuss the newly approved the Civil Unions Law, including its proposal of allowing gay couples to adopt, just a week after parliament approved the law.

Heralding the law, which on Thursday was signed into law, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said the government is proud “to be on the right side of history”, and of voting in favour of the law, while on the other hand, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil caused controversy after announcing that the Opposition would abstain because of “reservations” on gay adoption.

Together with Malta Gay Rights Movement Coordinator Gaby Calleja, Labour MEP candidate Cyrus Engerer, Civil Liberties Shadow Minister Claudette Buttigieg and Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Arnold Cassola, Reporter host Saviour Balzan will discuss their reaction, and the Opposition’s decision to abstain.

Despite the Opposition’s en bloc abstention, civil rights lobbyist and Nationalist MP Claudette Buttigieg declared that she wanted the Opposition to vote in favour of civil unions and gay adoptions – despite Simon Busuttil’s insistence that the Opposition would abstain.

The programme is produced and presented by Saviour Balzan, assisted by Fredrick Attard and the MediaToday newsroom.

Reporter is aired live every Monday at 6:55pm on TVM. The programme is repeated on TVM2 on Monday at 10:15pm.
