More than 40 reported dead after Taiwanese plane makes emergency landing

An emergency landing in Taiwan's Penghu lslands is said to have claimed several lives aboard the passenger airliner

A TransAsia passenger plane has crashed in Taiwan after attempting to make an emergency landing in typhoon conditions, local media say.

Local repots say TransAsia flight GE222, which was carrying more than 50 people, was attempting a go-around from Magong Airport before the crash on the island of Penghu.

Flight GE 222 was carrying 54 passengers and four crew members on an internal flight from Kaohsiung to Makung during stormy weather in the wake of Typhoon Matmo.

At least 40 passengers are said to have lost their lives and several more injured according to local news agencies.
