34 aircraft damaged during fighting at Tripoli airport – report

A list compiled by the Aviation Safety Network places the number of damaged aircraft during the Libyan conflict at 34

Thirty-four planes were damaged during the fighting that broke out at Tripoli’s airport in Libya. According to the list compiled by the Aviation Safety Network, 10 of the planes belonged to Libyan Airlines and eight to Afriqiyah.

A Malta-registered 9H-AEY Medavia plane was among the aircraft hit by shrapnel inside the hangar. A number of planes, including a Buraq aircraft, were brought to Malta for repairs.

Fighting at the Tripoli International Airport broke out in July and anti-government and pro-government militias were engaged in fighting.

Fighting continued throughout August with unidentified war planes attacking targets in the Libyan capital. A coalition of Islamist forces and fighters from Misrata, known as Dawn of Libya captured Tripoli’s airport.
