71 year old singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is intensive care after being found unconscious in her Los Angeles home.

Mitchell was rushed to hospital on Tuesday afternoon and a statement was released on her website explaining that she "regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an LA area hospital."

“Mitchell is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and she is awake and in good spirits," the statement reads.

In December she told Billboard magazine that she has a rare skin condition known as Morgellons Disease, which prevents her from performing.

Her website urged fans to keep her in their thoughts: "Light a candle and sing a song, let's all send good wishes her way. ”

Mitchell has won eight Grammy awards in her illustrious career, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Some of her most famous hits include Big Yellow Taxi, Both Sides Now and Woodstock among others.
