Refugees set off from Budapest to Austria on foot

Hundreds of refugees leave Bicske train station and set off to Austria on foot

Hundreds of refugees have broken through a Hungarian riot police cordon at the Bicske train station, in an attempt to arrive to Austria on foot.

Reporters on site report seeing hundreds of refugees walking along the motorway west of Belgrade. According to Reuters, police said they had given chase and halted traffic on a nearby motorway after some 300 migrants fled a crowded reception centre.

The crowd includes mostly men and younger migrants but also some disabled persons, as well as families carrying children.

Hungarian media report that at around 4pm the marching migrants, preparing to walk 175 kilometres to the border, have reached the M1 motorway where the traffic has been stopped.

Hungarian Police watched the silent migrants walk through Budapest but did not intervene, the AFP reported, adding there was no sign of conflict despite the migrants were causing traffic jams on their way out of the capital.
