A court in Florida handed a 25-year prison sentence to a man who killed his wife and posted the photo of the body on Facebook.

Derek Medina admitted to have posted the photo on Facebook but claimed that he had shot the wife in self-defence. He told the jury that he had endured years of abuse from his wife, Jennifer Alonso, who died after being shot at eight times.

The man claimed that his wife was threatening him with a knife while in their Miami home.

The court heard how Medina had vowed to kill her if she left him.

After killing her, the accused posted a photo of the deceased on Facebook. Medina wrote that he expected to go to prison or even be sentenced to death if a court found him guilty.

The 33-year-old was found guilty of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
