A man has been shot dead and two others seriously injured in a shooting in Dublin. The shooting took place at 2:30pm at the Regency Hotels on the Swords Hotel during a weigh-in for tomorrow’s WBO European Lightweight title fight between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Jao Bento.

The gunmen were reportedly armed with semi-automatic weapons and dressed in Garda uniforms. Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the murder, but believe it could be linked to the murder of Irish gangster Gary Hutch, who was shot dead in Spain last September.

They suspect that Hutch was murdered by a drugs cartel led by an Irishman based in Spain and that today’s killing could be in retaliation.

The two other men injured in the shooting were rushed to the Mater and Beaumont hospitals with “possible gunshot wounds”.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination of the area.
