Clinton names running mate for 2016 election

Clinton's decision to draft Kaine is thought to be aimed at helping her consolidate support among white voters, US analysts say

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has named Virginia Senator Tim Kaine as her running mate for the 2016 election, putting an end to months of speculation about who would be chosen and setting the stage for a heated general election against Donald Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

The announcement was made on Friday night from Clinton’s Twitter account, a day before Clinton and Kaine are set to campaign together in Florida. The decision to draft the mild-mannered Kaine is being interpreted by some political analysts to be aimed at helping Clinton consolidate support among white voters and bringing a competent, if not inspirational, partner with her into the race for the White House.

“I’m thrilled to announce my running mate, Tim Kaine, a man who’s devoted his life to fighting for others,” Clinton said in a tweet last night.
