Texas shooter injures several bystanders before being shot by police

Police in Houston, Texas, are called to a a shopping centre parking area where a suspect opened fire on innocent bystanders

US police say they've shot a suspect who opened fire in southwest Houston, Texas, Monday morning.

An emergency alert from the city said the shooting scene was believed to have been contained to the area of a shopping centre and warned residents to avoid the area.

Authorities have not released details about the shooting, but news media reported a number of people had been injured and were being transported to area hospitals.

The shooting took place in a strip mall parking lot near the corner of Weslayan Street and Bissonnet Street in southwest Houston.

Firefighters and police swarmed the scene as gunfire rang out; police said there were no reports of additional suspects.
