Belgian police officers have “neutralised” a man wearing an explosive belt at the Brussels Central Station, according to reports.

Police have confirmed that an “incident involving an individual” has taken place at Belgian’s busiest station and said that the situation is under control.

No casualties have been reported so far.

Pierre Meys, a fire service spokesperson, told RTL that some sort of explosion had occurred inside the station, but it is as yet unclear what caused the blast.

The station, as well as the city’s main square – Grand Place – have been evacuated, and several police officers and soldiers have been deployed to the area.

Belgium has been on high alert since suicide bombers killed 32 people at the Brussels international airport and at a central subway in March 2016.
