[WATCH] Lebanon PM arrives in France amid crisis

Lebanese Prime Minister, Saad Hariri arrived in France for talks on the crisis starked by his recent resignation

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived in France on Saturday, for talks on the crisis sparked by his resignations.

Hariri unexpectedly resigned two weeks ago during a visit to Riyadh, stated he feared for his life. His resignation has not been accepted.

Hariri denied widespread allegations that he was being held in Saudi Arabia against his will.

He left for Paris on Saturday, where he will meet French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron is attempting to help broker a solution to a political crisis that has raised fears over Lebanon's democracy. He also visited the country amid the regional tension.

Macron had invited Hariri to visit France after his prolonged stay in Saudi Arabia.

Macron said he will host Hariri and his family in France. There is no indication what Hariri plans to do after visiting Macron, but the French President has said he would be free to return to Lebanon to formally resign, or rethink his decision.

On Saturday, the Saudi state media said the country recalled its ambassador to Berlin in protest over comments made by the German foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel, suggesting that Hariri had been held against his will in Riyadh.

On Thursday, Gabriel said he shared the concern about the threat of instability and bloodshed in Lebanon and, without mentioning Saudi Arabia directly, warned against the "adventurism" behind the Lebanon crisis.
