The president and coach of Lija Athletic presented their new players ahead of the most challenging season in the top flight.

Both of them expressed the club’s intentions to keep last season’s momentum by writing yet another new page in the club’s interesting history, after winning the First Division Championship for the very first time.

Lija retained most of the players that were part of the squad that triumphed in the First Division; however, they also introduced some new players.

The First Division champions introduced three new foreigners namely Djamel Leeflang, Ousmane Sidibe and Marcelo De Souza Dias. These players will be accompanied by local talented players who also chose to play for Lija. Four of these players will be returning to play in red and white following previous appearances with Lija.

The team also engaged the professional services of a new goalkeeper’s coach, Alex Camilleri. In addition, Ognjen Milicevic was engaged as a new professional physiotherapist. David Spiteri will also be part of the technical set-up as a physical trainer.

On behalf of the committee, the president thanked all club sponsors and urged supporters to back the team in their effort to retain Premiership status for the first time in the club’s history.

Lija will now be in action tomorrow when they will face Gżira United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
