The victory practically happened in the first round when the Maltese boxer powerfully knocked down challenger Eric ‘The Viking' Thompson twice where stand-up counts by the referee were shouted on both occasions. Throughout the remaining time after the two knock-outs the British boxer was visibly shaken and looking uncomfortable.

When the bell struck to signal the start of the second round the corner-man of the ‘The Viking' gave a warning sign to the referee that his boxer was not in a condition to continue. The fight was to have lasted six rounds of 3-minutes each session.

This was Corito's tenth fight of which he won nine fights with a Knock-Out with the other fight he won by points. With this remarkable victory Corito retained the EBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Title Belt and is definitely moving up the EBF Heavyweight category rankings, where prior to this fight he was in the 7th placing.

"One would think this was an easy fight. Believe me it wasn't. At 6' 5" Eric is a massive strong boxer with a powerful fist. I simply was the better boxer on the night", remarked ‘The Hit Man'.

Friday's Night of Boxing was another proud occasion for the Maltese boxers where on the day the locals won six, drew one and lost one of the eight fights programme.

Tyron Borg retained his EBF Intercontinental Title Belt Cruiserweight category winning his fight against Cayan Hughes with a technical knock-out.

Dione Galea who was defending the EBF Intercontinental Title Belt Middleweight category title in a fight against Jason Curtis, an EBF British Champion, registered a draw result. This encounter will have a repeat in November where at stake will also be the EBF Super Middleweight category European Champion's title.

Alfred Bonnici was disqualified in his fight against Paul Marsden, while the remaining four fights, namely, Justin Grech vs Mike Roberts, Joseph Bonello vs Gary Catterill, Brandon Borg vs Billy Shah, and Lydon Chircop vs Omar Dusari all ended up in victories for the locals.
