Corito clinches No. 1 spot in 2mins 13sec

Malta’s Billy Corito has made the European Boxing Federation No. 1 Ranking in the Heavyweight Category and retained the EBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Title Belt with an outstanding show of technique and strength that only lasted 2mins 13sec of the first session – a decisive fight that should have been made of six sessions of 3minutes each.

The crowd passionately acknowledge the most dramatic moment of last night’s fight: the knockout punch - the core of the drama. Dominant Billy Corito ‘The Hit Man’ looks down over the helpless Micky Cotcher ‘The Butcher’ knocked down in just 2mins 13secs of the 1st session. Referee Marc James signals the counts. EBF No. 3 ranking Micky Cotcher known as ‘The Butcher' who with a record of 29 knock-out victories out of his 32 encounters is a fighter who knows no way to fight other than gunning for knockouts last night was simply no match to the powerful Maltese boxer.

It was a Night of Spectacular Boxing for the locals indeed for besides Billy Corito's impressive victory Maltese boxers won 7 of the other 8 fights on the night's Fight Card including all four ‘Belts' determining encounters. The Monte Cristo Estates certainly provided an exclusive boxing arena which looked its best when the full house audience passionately acknowledged the local boxers particularly when Corito knocked down Cotcher.

The night's results were: Etienne Spiteri won by points vs Shane Bowmer (Light Welterweight); Raif Siddiq won by points v Daniel Attard (Bantamweight); Ronald Tabone won by points v Billy Snaith (Middle Weight); Hershen Scibberas won by points v Alex Ferguson (Welterweight); Lydon "Beqqu" Chircop won by points v Billy Wilkinson for the EBF Super Middle Weight European Title; Brandon Borg won by points v Mikey Worswick for the EBF Light Weight European Title; Dione Galea won by points v Mickey Mags to retain the EBF Super Middle Weight European Title; Tyrone Borg won by K.O. in 4th Round v Wayne O`Neill to retain the EBF Light Heavy Weight European Title.

Billy Corito won by K.O. in 1st Round (2mins 13secs) v Micky Cotcher for the EBF Heavyweight Ranking fight for No. 1 Place and the EBF Intercontinental Heavyweight Title Belt.

The EBF Malta Night of Boxing, the fifth in the series, was organized by local promoter Paul Borg and the European Boxing Federation who also nominated the foreign boxers in the programme.

The main sponsors of this Night of Boxing are RE/MAX, Fortina Hotel, The Party Bus Malta and MedAsia Playa. Other support is extended by Golden Harvest, Badass Burgers, Barcelona Lounge, TeamsporT and London Butcher-Gzira.
