Sacco, Lenard deny Ovingdean

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C took on returning team Ovingdean C.C, whose last visit was in 2009 where they were beaten two games to nil.

On Saturday the home team batted first. Ronnie Sacco playing in only his second game against touring teams opened the batting and in his unique technique made forty valuable runs which included six fours and also top scored.

Extras was next high score being thirty five runs which hit the tourists hard. Sid Anand with a very interesting batting grip made twenty six runs and reliable John Grima made twenty seven runs in a modest total of 155 runs which

Ovingdean backed themselves to make. U.Patel took four wickets for the tourists, A.Hart and P.Walia took two a piece while N.Boe and G.Herring took a wicket each.

Ovingdean were setting up the run chase nicely with G.Herring scoring twenty six runs, N.Boe thirty fours runs and J.Amin twenty seven runs not out, these were the top three batsmen. Amin witnessed six ducks and only U.Patel stuck with him for a while scoring twenty five runs. Ovingdean were bowld out for 137 runs. On Sunday the visitors batted first and posted a reasonable total of 167 runs. N.Boe being the stand out batsmen making forty nine runs and J.Chawla made thirty six. The home team was eratic in the bowling department and gave away twenty nine wides. Haroon Majeed took three wickets, Ewan Prezens, Tony Slater,Raja Zubair and Bikram Arora took two wickets each and Tim Wheeler took one.

In Reply the home team made the runs in the twenty ninth over Andy Lenard played one of his best innings to date making 108 runs not out which included fourteen fours and a six. John Rusher made four runs. Tim Wheeler accompanied Lenard in a 140 run partnership in which he made thirty four runs. Andy Mitchell making the winning two runs which sealed the whitewash. For Ovingdean G.Herring and P.Walia took a wicket each.

Next Saturday the MCA Summer league commences with Krishna C.C taking on Melita C.C. The Sunoco Cricket academy will be from 9:00am till 10:30am.
