Marsa draw series

Marsa were back in action again after a weeks rest, playing against returning team Ampthill Town C.C who were on their sixth tour.

Their first tour was in 2009 and since had played five series in which the Marsa team had won three and drew the other two. Ampthill had lost their previous two tours and were looking to win this series.

On Thursday in the first game of twenty overs they batted first with Joey Evans making light work of the Marsa bowlers making seventy three runs which included seven fours and a six. Richard Haxell chipped in with twenty four runs from a gettable total of 131 runs.  For Marsa Niraj Khanna took two wickets, Ronnie Sacco and Sarfraz Ali took one each. John Grima also took a wicket putting aside his keeping gloves to show all that he can bowl as well, from his four overs only twelve runs were taken.

In reply the Marsa team batted poorly and were bowled out for seventy three runs. Waseem Abbas was the top scorer with twenty five runs. Nigel Lewin and Danny Thompson took three wickets each, John Marsh took two and David Morgan one. Ampthill stamped their intent to win the series.

On Saturday the Marsa team batted first and a much better showing was displayed. Andrew Naudi top scored in a fine innings of fifty six runs which included six fours and a six. Tom Newell also hit as many boundaries and made fifty four runs. John Grima made a valuable thirty nine runs and there were thirty eight extras, in a fine batting display which had the home team make 237 runs.  Danny Thompson was again in the wickets taking two while David Morgan, Justin Brooke, Andrew Passman and R.Hardy took a wicket each. This time it was Ampthill who slumped in their batting department being bowled out for 110 runs. Richard Haxell top scored with thirty seven runs. For Marsa Gordon Hewitt created havoc for the batsmen taking three wickets, Paul Bradley and Amal Sebastion  took two each while Tom Newell took one. Marsa won the game and managed to draw the series.

Next weekend the Marsa team has a new touring team , Howitzers C.C , in a two game series.

On Saturday the Sunoco Cricket academy will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
