Marsa turn the tables on Turnville Park C.C

What a jam packed weekend, starting from Friday afternoon, the Marsa C.C had, entertaining new team from England, Turnville Park C.C in a three game series.

The first game was a hum dinger with Turnville batting first and scoring a healthy 165 runs from their overs. O.Thorton was outstanding punishing the Marsa bowlers with a fine seventy nine runs which included nine fours and two big sixes. He was well aided by S.Halfhead who made thirty four runs. For the home team five bowlers , Andy Naudi, Ravi Sharma, Justin Farrin Thorne, Sid Anand and Gordon Hewitt took a wicket each.

Haroon Majeed opening the batting gave the hosts the best possible start scoring forty six runs from twenty one balls which included nine fours and a six. Joy Ghoseroy put in a run a ball thirty, Andy Naudi twelve runs, Sharoon Lazar a run a ball thirty six, twenty four runs from seventeen balls from Frank Spiteri and the stage was set. With three balls remaining and eight runs required, enter Ravi Sharma and with absolute gile hit two boundaries in a row. A fantastic win for the home team. For Turnville, N.Runkell took two wickets while S.Bearall and O.Thorton took a wicket each.

In the Saturday game the visitors turned up the heat totalling 211 of the thirty five overs they had. J.Hunt was their hero scoring sixty seven runs at number eight. S.Beardall scored forty four, S.Halfhead thirty five and T.White twenty. FOR Marsa Sarfraz Ali was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets.

The Marsa team went all out attack and were bowled out for 98 runs. John Grima batted well top scoring with twenty eight runs. Joy Ghoseroy chipped in with sixteen. O.Thorton took three wickets, P.Briffet two, J.Thorton and P.Zulueta one each for Turnville.  Series levelled.

The Sunday game was another classic game. Turnville , for the third consecutive day batted first. This time the Marsa bowlers especially Ramandeep Singh and Tony Slater kept them very quiet , to thirty nine runs combined of their fourteen overs. Turnville through O.Thorton (seventy two runs) and J.Thorton  (twenty seven runs) managed too make 153 of their overs. The wicket takers for Marsa were Mike Caruana with four, Simon Lavendar with three and Kevin Krishna with one.

Singh (thirty three runs) and Tim Wheeler (thirteen runs) gave the home team a reasonable start and by the thirteenth over were four wickets down for 66 runs. Mike Caruana (fifty three runs not out ) and Mat McKeogh (thirty three runs not out) put on a match winning partnership of eighty eight runs and with only three balls remaining. McKeogh was absolutely delighted as he hit the winning run for the game and the series. For the visitors T.White took three wickets and N.Runkell one.

Next week sees the Marsa team playing a team from Tunisa,  Carthage C.C in a two game series, one on Thursday and the other on Saturday.
