Valletta had to wait until the last stages of the match to ensure an undeserved victory over a convincing Qormi who were leading their opponents 2-0.  Qormi will most certainly be disappointed with the end result who were the better side for long stretches in the game.  Valletta on the other should count themselves lucky to have come out with all three points from this match.

Qormi started the game brightly and to no surprise forged ahead after twelve minutes through former Valletta forward Frank Temille who hit the ball past keeper Nicky Vella after a pass from Alfred Effiong.

Zoran Levnaic doubled the score for Qormi on thirty six minues from corner kick.  After finding themselves two goals down, Valletta made a reaction and hit the bar through a fierce shot by Lateef Elford-Alliyu.

In the second half, Valletta tried to get back into the game with an early goal and looked a more positive side.  They had to wait until the 67th minute to reduce the gap through a rebound by Hamza Barry after an Elford-Alliyu effort was partially saved by Matthew Farrugia.

Valletta were level nine minutes later after Hamza Barry was brought down in the penalty area by defender Mauricio Mazzetti.  From the spot, Hamza Barry made no mistake.

Nine minutes before the end, Ian Azzopardi was left unmarked near the Qormi area, with his fine effort giving the Qormi keeper no chance.

Hamza Barry of Valletta was voted BOV player of the match.
