Qormi move closer to safety with trashing win over Tarxien

Mark Miller's men leapfrog their opponents in ninth place as safety draws nearer

It took Mark Miller and his men just 45 minutes to brush aside the tame challenge imposed by Tarxien who only tried to get back in the game after the contest was already sealed.

Four goals from four different players made sure Qormi erased their dismal performance against  Balzan last weekend to leapfrog their rivals in ninth position and temporarily move out of the relegtion play-off spot.

Qormi were off to a flying start, Leighton Grech played a neat one-two with Marcelinhho who burst into the box and the dynamic midfielder flicked the ball past Sean Mintoff with barely a minute gone.

On nine minutes, Alfred Effiong made his way into the Tarxien area and looking certain to direct a shot at goall but instead opting to play the ball to the better-placed Alex Nilsson who lifted the ball into the net from close range.

Just before half-time, Qormi put the game beyond doubt when Grech put his name on the scoresheet when he released a low shot past Mintoff after an individual solo effort.

Before the final whistle, Jonathan Bondin crowned a very much encouraging individual performance with a goal when his long-range shot gave the Tarxien keeper Mintoff no chance to get a touch on the ball.
