The Spartans were the better team in the early stages of the match, but were unable to test Andrew Hogg.

As time went by, Hibernians managed to hold more possession and tested Ħamrun’s goalkeeper, David Cassar, on the 34th minute.  From a corner, Clayton Failla found Andrei Agius, who fired a powerful header that was tipped over by Cassar.

Seconds later, Ħamrun managed to go in front when Jake Grech picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch before firing an excellent shot from distance that ended up into the top corner.

Hibernians tried to react, and on the 44th minute, Marcelo Dias spotted Cassar out of position, and tried to surprise him. However, Cassar managed to save the ball with the aid of the post.

In the second half, Hibs kept on looking for an equaliser, and their efforts paid off when Jackson Lima sent a ball toward Bjorn Kristensen. The Maltese striker fired a shot that hit Patrick Teixeira Maia before ending up in the net.

Five minutes later, Ħamrun restored their lead. From Jake Greck’s free kick, the ball fell for Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza, who headed past Hogg.

Hibernians failed to hit back, with their only chance coming for Jurgen Degabriele. The youngster fired a volley that forced an excellent save from Cassar.

The Spartans made sure of the three points few minutes later after Jake Grech released Mifsud Triganza, who managed to beat Hogg for the second time.

The match was controlled by Clayton Pisani.
