After fourteen minutes, Tarxien were awarded a penalty when Felix Udoh Okon fouled Ayrton Azzopardi inside the penalty area. From the resulting penalty, Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos saw his shot being saved by Jake Galea. The rebound fell for Daniel Ponce de Leon Garcia; however, his low shot was saved again by the young St. Andrews goalkeeper.

Galea denied Tarxien once more on the 39th minute. Ponce de Leon received the ball from Emerson Marcelina and attempted to go through, but the St. Andrews goalkeeper came off his line and cleared the danger.

Despite such early pressure from Tarxien, St. Andrews went ahead on the 53rd minute. From a corner, Joseph Farrugia delivered a cross inside the penalty area that was met by Kyrian Nwoko, who headed home.

On the 67th minute, St. Andrews were reduced to ten men after Ante Bakmaz received his second caution.

Having an extra man in the pitch, Tarxien tried to pull forward in their search for an equaliser. However, St. Andrews defence proved hard to break.

Two minutes from time, Tarxien had Ebiabowei Baker sent off following a reckless tackle that earned him his second yellow card.
