Hibs kept the pace with Balzan after registering a 1-0 win over Valletta.

Valletta went close after sixteen minutes when Leandro Aguirre saw his effort being saved by Andrew Hogg.

Hibs responded three minutes later through Clayton Failla. The Hibernians midfielder sent a shot from distance that hit the post.

Hogg was on the alert once more on the 23rd minute. Romeu Romao served Umeh Uchenna Calistus and the latter fired a strong shot that forced another good save from Hogg.

On the 39th minute, Calistus had another opportunity for Valletta, but his shot sailed wide of the post.

In the early stages of the second half, Valletta had another good opportunity on goal. New signing Tomas Radinevicius found Jhonnattann Benites Da Conceicao who finished slightly wide.

However, the Paolites scored the all-important goal on the hour mark. Jurgen Degabriele hit a shot which Dzjugas Bartkus partially saved. From the rebound, Jackson Lima finished inside the net.

Valletta increased their pressure in their attempts to score an equaliser and were close seven minutes from time when Steve Borg fired a shot which Hogg managed to save.

In the remaining minutes, Hibs kept firm to take home a vital win.
