Birkirkara earned a narrow 1-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows as they keep hoping for a place in Europe.

Tarxien went close in the first chance of the match. Daniel Ponce De Leon Garcia went on the right flank and sent a cross which was partially cleared. Possession fell for Alex Nilsson who forced a good save from Henry Bonello.

On the 7th minute, Triston Caruana went on a good run before delivering the ball towards Nilsson whose shot went wide.

Bonello was on the alert to deny Nilsson once more on the 41st minute. The Swedish striker fired a shot which the Birkirkara goalkeeper managed to deflect.

Birkirkara scored the winning goal just before half time. From a free kick, Miguel Alba fired a shot that took a deflection off Emerson Marcellina before ending up inside the net.

On the 70th minute, Edmond Agius of Birkirkara sent a shot from distance which got the best out of Philip Schranz.
