St Andrews went close after just two minutes. Ziga Kastrevec hit a shot that was well saved by Anthony Curmi.

Curmi was on the alert once more on the 12th minute. Following a corner, Karlo Kesinovic saw his effort being saved once more by the Gżira shot stopper.

The Maroons hit back and went ahead three minutes later. Moises Avila Perez sent a cross that found Andrew Cohen who fired a strong shot past Duncan Formosa.

Danilo Dancic’s side were unlucky not to equalise on the 23rd minute. Aidan Friggieri saw his shot hitting the woodwork.

St Andrews managed to equalise on the 43rd minute. Kastrevec received the ball from Friggieri and hit a low shot that ended up inside the net.

Gżira retained their lead on the 68th minute. Karl Pulo sent a cross that was met by Ige Abdullahi Adeshina who headed home.

However, St Andrews equalised again six minutes later. Daniel Brandle went on the right flank and sent a cross towards Jacob Walker. The substitute player hit a close range shot that went past Curmi.

Despite this effort, Gżira scored the winning goal on the 84th minute. Cohen sent a cross from a free kick that went into the path of Emerson Amairo who slotted the ball inside the net.

In the additional time, Darren Abdilla’s side nearly added another after Gianmarco Conti’s effort from distance hit the post.
