On the 16th minute, Real Madrid were denied by the post. From a corner, Luka Modric delivered a cross towards the unmarked Casemiro whose header hit the upright.

Despite losing this opportunity, Casemiro still managed to open the score for the European Champions on the 23rd minute. Dani Carvajal sent an excellent through ball towards the Brazilian and the latter placed the ball inside the net with a fine piece of skill.

Real Madrid threatened again on the 42nd minute. Karim Benzema fired a shot that was parried by David De Gea.

Manchester United hit back on the 45th minute. Romelu Lukaku saw his header going straight at Navas.

Knowing that something had to be done, Mourinho tried to strengthen his attack by introducing Marcus Rashford in the beginning of thesecond half as Jesse Lingard made space.

However, Real Madrid kept coming. On the 47th minute, Toni Kroos fired a powerful drive from distance that forced a great save from De Gea.

Five minutes later, Real Madrid made it 2-0. A touch of class between Gareth Bale and Isco saw the latter finishing past the Manchester United shot stopper.

Manchester United lost a great opportunity a minute later. Ander Herrera’s cross found Pogba whose header was blocked by Navas. Rebound fell for Lukaku who had the easiest of chances but still finished off target.

The European Champions were denied by the post once more on the 60th minute. Casemiro passed the ball towards Bale and the Real forward hit a strong shot that rattled the upright.

Two minutes later, the Red Devils went back into the game. Nemanja Matic’s shot was blocked by Navas. Rebound fell once more for Lukaku and this time the newly recruited striker finished home.

Manchester United nearly equalised on the 81st minute. Rashford was played through by Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the youngster fired a low shot that was well saved by Navas.

Ten minutes later, Antonio Valencia sent a perfect cross towards Marouane Fellaine but the Belgian’s header was neutralised by Navas.

On the other end, De Gea produced an excellent save. Substitute Marko Asensio received the ball inside the penalty area and hit a shot that was turned behind by the Spanish goalkeeper.

Following this result, Real Madrid’s captain Sergio Ramos lifted their fourth European Super Cup. They are now one cup away from the record held by Milan and Barcelona.
