The Maroons made a flying start to the match as they went ahead after just three minutes. Sacha Borg sent a cross in the direction of Amadou Samb who headed the ball inside the net.

Gżira doubled their advantage two minutes later. Juan Carlos Corbolan went down the right side and hit a low shot past Henry Bonello.

Valletta managed to pull one back on the 65th minute. Rowen Muscat was brought down inside the penalty area and the referee pointed towards the spot. Substitute Deni Rocha Dos Santos took charge of the spot kick and placed the ball inside the net.
