Hibernians went into this match looking to win their fourth Super Cup. They won it in 1994, 2007 and 2015. On the other hand, Floriana were eager to win the cup for their second time. The greens only managed to win this trophy in 1994 when they defeated rivals Valletta.

Floriana created the first opportunity of the match after three minutes. Juninho Cabral went on the right flank and sent a cross towards Maurizio Vella whose effort was neutralised by Andrew Hogg.

Hibernians replied on the 16th minute. From a free-kick, Clayton Failla hit a low shot that went slightly wide.

However, in their next chance on goal, Floriana forged ahead on the 37th minute. Cabral delivered a cross in the direction of Mario Fontanella who headed the ball past Hogg.

A minute later, Floriana nearly increased their advantage when Steve Pisani fired a powerful drive from distance that was tipped behind by Hogg.

The Paolites were denied by Ini Etim Akpan on the 57th minute. Following a free-kick by Failla, Martin Kreuzriegler saw his header being saved by the Floriana shot stopper.

Mark Miller’s side kept on insisting and lost another good opportunity on the 62nd minute. Substitute Jackson Lima sent a cross towards Jurgen Degabriele whose spectacular effort ended up high.

Floriana hit back on the 72nd minute. Vella went on a good run inside the penalty area and fired a shot that went off target.

Five minutes later, Lima of Hibernians hit a powerful drive from distance that failed to hit the target.

On the 85th minute, it was Hogg who kept Hibs in the game. Vella squared the ball for Cabral who went inside the penalty area before hitting a low shot that was parried by the Hibernians goalkeeper.

A minute later, Hibernians lost a golden opportunity to equalise. Joseph Mbong went down the right flank and delivered a cross towards the unmarked Jorge Elias Dos Santos who finished wide.

Hibs created their last opportunity in the additional time given by the referee. Marcelo Dias provided a cross for Mbong and the latter headed the ball over.
