Birkirkara bounced back from their defeat against Valletta as two late goals earned them a 2-0 win over Floriana.

Birkirkara went close on the 18th minute. Marcelo de Siqueira drilled a shot that forced a good save from Ini Etim Akpan.

Floriana hit back on the 24th minute. From a free-kick, Juninho Cabral saw his thumping shot being saved by lristijan Naumovski.

The Greens suffered a huge set back on the 39th minute as Alex Cini was sent off after being shown his second yellow card of the match following a foul on Siqueira.

The tempo slowed down drastically inside the second half as both teams could not penetrate each other’s defence.

In fact, the first real chance of the second half was created by Birkirkara on the 74th minute. Siqueira’s acrobatic effort was saved by Akpan.

On the other end, Ignacio Varela attempted to lob the ball past Naumovski with the latter parrying it for a corner.

Four minutes later, Daniel Agius of Floriana saw his close range effort being saved by Naumovski.

Birkirkara broke the deadlock on the 88th minute. Mislav Andjelkovic fired a shot from distance that gave Akpan no chance.

Jake Grech could have scored on the 90th minute as he went through on goal, but failed to conclude.

However, the young midfielder still managed to seal the issue a minute later. Birkirkara’s substitute received the ball from Siqueira and placed it inside the net.
