ASMK resigns from Malta Motorsport Federation

The Executive Committee of 'Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi' (A.S.M.K.) has decided to resign its 'Malta Motorsports Federation' (MMF) membership completely in the coming days.

During a Referendum in 2011 ASMK members authorised ASMK Administration to take any decision and terminate the MMF membership in the best interests of ASMK.

These measures are being taken due to the introduction of two particular MMF Statute emends which will be negatively effecting ASMK members with the possibility of creating conflicts, division between the Autocross and Motocross members and bring both in a discriminating position with other MMF affiliated club members.

ASMK personnel had contributed and are founder members of MMF since 2007. MMF Statute was set up with 12 (now it has 13) different Commissions to cater for the different motorsport disciplines and more. Each Commission including both Commissions in which ASMK is represented has its own Commissioner and each holds one vote on the MMF Executive committee council.

ASMK has both the Autocross and Motocross clubs affiliated to MMF in the two respective Commissions. Each of the Autocross and the Motocross had one Commissioner on the MMF Executive board as per the MMF Statute and had only one vote as anybody else in any AGM and/or EGM.

With effect of motions forwarded during an EGM on Thursday 30th January 2014 presented by 'Mini Owners Club' and seconded by 'Classic Ford Club' during an EGM, ASMK only is being brought in a position now to have only one Councillor instead of two on the MMF Executive committee to represent both the ASMK Autocross and Motocross which fall in two completely separate Commissions when all other different disciplines are represented by their particular Commissioner. This is an unacceptable decision which also discriminates all ASMK affiliated members in comparison to all other Commissions members within MMF.

Also, a second motion which states that an association can only represent one sporting discipline is completely unacceptable and is a breach to the MMF Statute where it is bound to safe guard and oversee the autonomy of its member club.

Also, due to the fact that ASMK has been affiliated to FIM-Europe and now also affiliated and represents Malta within the FIM for all motorcycle sport Internationally, MMF is closing all doors for ASMK in this regard by the introduction of another Statute emend presented by the same Mini Owners Club. This states that no MMF member club can have other clubs affiliated to it and still hold an MMF membership too.

We understand that these MMF measures are being introduced to force ASMK to terminate its FIM and FIM-Europe membership if we decide to continue with our MMF membership. Besides that these measures are unacceptable they also go against the same MMF Statute which obliges it to oversee its affiliated clubs autonomy.

In these regards ASMK have no other option than to publicly and officially declare its resignation from the 'Malta Motorsport Federation'. An Official resignation letter by ASMK is being addressed to the MMF Secretariat.
