An Eventful weekend for Malta Formula Racing at Mugello

The 3rd round of the FIA Formula 4 Italian Championship at Mugello was quite an eventful weekend for Malta Formula Racing team.

Mattia Drudi appeared to be determined to achieve his second top podium after Imola by seizing 3rd and 4th place in Race 1 and Race 2 respectively. However, he was the one to suffer most when he was pushed off track followed by a spine-chilling rollover accident with Takashi Kasai of Prema Power Team. Drudi and Kasai were fighting for the 4th place in Lap 15 of Race 3. However the unsportsmanship attitude of Kasai was not enough on track, as after the accident, instead of assisting Drudi, Kasai flared up by kicking Drudi’s helmet and car several times. The team unreservedly condemns such attitude from such immature drivers, and call for the attention of the organisers and race officials to take necessary action so that this ‘bullying’ attitude is not tolerated any longer in the sport before someone gets hurt.

On the other hand, Maltese Driver Keith Camilleri, had a positive start in Race 1 finishing 9th, but dropped to 17th place in Race 2 after the setup of his Tatuus F4 T104 was slightly modified resulting that his car was not drivable. Although the team worked hard to reset to the previous race setup, Camilleri was still not happy and tried to do miracles to keep control of his car on track while racing. Further to this, the track surface was not helping Camilleri thus finishing off track on various occasions and had to retire from Race 3 on Lap 9.

Indian driver Mahaveer Ragunathan after keeping the 13th for Race 1 and Race 2, had an excellent start in Race 3 securing the 8th position on lap 1, who controlled it until the end to finish 7th in the under 18 years championship. Team mates, American driver, Zachery Dante, and Italian driver, Giovanne Altoe both managed to finish their races uneventful, closing in 10th and 16th position respectively in Race 3.

After the ups and downs of Mugello, Malta Formula Racing will now set their sight on the official testing next Tuesday at Vallelunga Circuit followed by Round 4 of the FIA F4 Italian championship at Magione Circuit on the 2nd and 3rd August.
