An out-of-control rally car has killed six people and injured several others in an accident during the Coruna Rally in Spain.

Four women and two men lost their lives in the accident which took place in Carral, a city in the north-western region of Galicia, a police spokeswoman said. One of the victims was reportedly pregnant. Police are quoted as saying that the car had been going too fast.

Three children were also injured and taken to hospital. Press reports the drivers not to be among the injured.

The rally has been suspended and the authorities have launched an investigation.
