ASMK autocross race in Gozo in aid of Arka Foundation

The Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) will be performing in Sannat this weekend with Cars Autocross.

This event, organized and sponsored by ASMK and Pasta Poiatti is being held in Gozo for the second consecutive year at this time of the year, to raise funds in aid of Gozo’s ‘Arka Foundation’, which performs much work on a voluntary basis with its residents in Gozo, through Autocross Motorsport, to expose the sport of Autocross races among spectators in Gozo, especially those who find difficulty to watch such events at Ta’ Qali in Malta.

A temporary autocross track has been built by members of the ASMK on a large field before it is prepared for agricultural production in the coming agriculture season. This locality is large enough to construct the temporary track and paddocks for the competition cars of Maltese and Gozitan Autocross competitors. All this is made possible with the full cooperation, support and many thanks to the Curmi and Cassar families, who also happen to be the location owners.

The Minister for Gozo is also supporting this activity together with the local councils of Sannat and Xewkija, the Gozo Sports Board and the Department of Works in Gozo. Thanks are also addressed to the Police Force in Gozo, the family of Joseph Apap and many other Gozitan collaborators who all are giving their share towards this activity to make it possible and successful in aid of the Arka Foundation of Gozo.

Early yesterday (Saturday) afternoon ASMK held the Practice Sessions for all Maltese and Gozo competitors on the temporary track, which is situated in Triq Sannat l/o Sannat. The races will be held today starting at 10:00 in the morning. These are expected to keep on going till late in the afternoon. Competitors and spectators are expected to make a donation in aid of the Arka Foundation.

The award winners will be presented with trophies and tokens on site by distinguished persons at the end of the programme.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9th, 10th and 11th September, the ASMK held the 11th edition of the Malta Moto Raduno starting in Malta and ending in the Sicilian town of Ragusa. This edition attracted a cultural selection of bikers. 39 tourists riding 20 large capacity touring motorcycles made it to Malta for a three day tour.

These were under the direction of ASMK president Frans Deguara together with members of the ‘Moto Guzzi Club Malta’.  They visited several places of tourist interest, such as cities and villages, places of interest and many locations both in Malta and Gozo. Tasting typical Maltese food and drink was included during the three days they spent during their visit in Malta.

‘We made new friends’ were the comments of many together with remarks for a professional way of the tour organization. We hope that many of these bikers will re-visit Malta in the future as is indeed happening with previous visitors who participated in the previous ASMK Malta edition of the Moto-Raduno.
