Maltese drag racer Duncan Micallef became the fastest drag racer in European history, when he completed a 1000-foot race in just 3.89 seconds at a top speed of 312 mph.

Micallef was competing at the European FIA drag racing final at the Santa Pod race track in the UK, that was eventually won by Finland’s Anita Makela.

The previous European record for the 1000-foot race was set at 3.878 seconds.

A few weeks ago, Micallef came agonizingly close to beating the European record – completing a race in Sweden in 3.91 seconds.

The Malta Motorsport Federation will organise a hero’s welcome for the drag racer at the arrivals lounge of the airport at 11:30pm.
