It has been a good day for Maltese clay pigeon shooting, with Malta's representative, William Chetcuti, winning gold in the double trap competition at the ISSF World Cup in Baku.

640 athletes from 80 nations travelled to the capital of Azerbaijan to compete in the sixth and last World Cup stage of the season, which is being held there from the 20th to the 29th of June.

This competition marks the final opportunity for the world's best shooters to test their mettle against global competition before the Rio 2016 Olympics, which starts in less than 50 days time.

Chetcuti fought off tough challenges from Italian shooter Marco Innocenti and Chinese representative Mo Junjie, hitting 139 out of 150 targets in the first round, 29 out of 30 in the second and hitting all 28 targets in the final, before defeating the Italian in a shoot off.
