The latest youth to benefit from this opportunity was Neil Markham, who, at the tender age of 19 has already established himself as one of the top triathletes on the island. Markham has just returned from a triathlon training camp in Ravne Na Koroškem, in the north of Slovenia. The camp was organised by the Development Committee of the European Triathlon Union.

Markham is the third youth from Triathlon Malta to attend such training camp this summer, following Nina Zammit and Shaun Galea's participation in Lithuania earlier on. Last year, Hannah Pace held the Maltese flag in a similar opportunity in Croatia.

Upon his return to Malta, Neil Markham confessed that: 'This training camp was a great experience for me as I learnt a lot how to master the techniques in all the three triathlon disciplines. Furthermore, it gave me the opportunity to participate an international race for the first time which served as a real eye but also a great racing experience. Another positive aspect of the camp was that of forming new friendships with triathletes from all over the continent.

I would like to thank wholeheartedly the Malta Triathlon Federation for granting me this opportunity and also the European Triathlon Union for putting up such a high-quality training camp'.

'The Malta Triathlon Federation believes in the potential of its younger generation of athletes and is pursuing various paths for those children and youths who are willing to partecipate in this sport. Through the excellent networking we have built in the past years among our fellow continental partners, especially through the support of the European Triathlon Federation, we have secured the nurturing of an academy for children and teenagers as well as having four of our most promising youths attending such training camps. This augurs very well for the future of Triathlon in Malta' remarked Cyprian Dalli, President of the Malta Triathlon Federation.

Triathlon Malta will be busy organising 2 National multisport championships this coming weeks, with the first ever National Aquathlon Championships on Wednesday 17 September at Marsaxlokk and the grand final of the season, the National Triathlon Championships on Sunday 12 October at Marfa.
