Borg shows consistency to win the Mondello Cup Sprint Triathlon

Racing in a field of over 175 participants Birkirkara St. Joseph Triathlete Graham Borg showed his consistent racing form to win the Mondello Cup Sprint Triathlon.

Held under the auspices of the Italian Triathlon Federation, the Mondello Cup Sprint Triathlon, was a draft legal race which consisted of a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run and held in overall good weather conditions.

Borg was first out of the water having kept in the front group with the five strongest swimmers in the competition. A fast transition enabled him to keep his position and have a good lead ahead of the other cyclists. After the second transition Borg was able to keep his gap in the run segment and crossed the finish line first with a one minute lead over the second placed athlete.

“I am delighted with my performance here in Sicily, which by no means was an easy race. It is always a great learning experience that helps improve one’s performance when racing in such a field of athletes” said Borg shortly after the race.

Borg’s participation in the Mondello Cup Sprint Triathlon was made possible through Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club, PowerBar, www.cfragrances.com and MZ Investments. Borg’s next international commitment will be at the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon which will field over 7,000 triathletes.

Also taking part in the Mondello Cup Sprint Triathlon was fellow Birkirkara St. Joseph triathlete Steve Chetcuti who placed second in his age group and eleventh overall.
