Eight members of the Malta Canoe Polo Club will be taking part in the prestigious Coppa Sicilia tournament on 6 March at Ognina in Catania.

This tournament sees different clubs from the Sicilian island fighting their way for the cup.

During this weekend event, teams from neighbouring countries are also invited into this sea going battle. The tournament is split in three categories: Male Seniors, Female Seniors and Under 21 Males. The Maltese team will participate in the Male Seniors.

After a successful 2015, which saw the MCPC participate and attaining good results in their first ever tournament held in Amsterdam, and the Malta Open held last October, the club looks at 2016 with renewed determination. Since the start of 2016, the club has stepped up on training, increasing the number of technical and physical sessions. Team members are now following an intensive daily training routine.

The Coppa Sicilia tournament is the first of a number of 'away' tournaments the club will be participating in, leading to the much-awaited Malta Open 2016, which will be held in the last quarter of this year.

The team participating in the Coppa Sicilia is composed of Karl Borg, Alan Borg, Steve Rizzo, Alex Rizzo, Ryan Rizzo, Jan Degiorgio, and Vince Niesz.

The players will leave Malta on the 5th of March and are expected back on the 7th.
