Casa Antonia residents roll back the years for Sports Day

Casa Antonia residents relive their school years in their annual Sports Day

It was egg and spoons at the ready for the Casa Antonia home residents who relived their school years during the annual Sports Day.

From relay racing and bin ball, to basketball throw and volleyball, residents of Casa Antonia Nursing and Residential Home in Balzan did it all. The teams at Bank of Valletta Balluta and St Julians, along with their family members and friends spent the day with the residents of Casa Antonia, accompanying the residents and their carers throughout the activities.

The energy filled day, which coincides with the international day of sport for development and peace, forms part of Casa Antonia’s on-going initiative to promote active, healthy ageing amongst its residents.

The fitness fun event proved to be a great success amongst the residents who were divided into four teams each, including a relative, a volunteer from Bank of Valletta and a staff member from Casa Antonia.

“These social activities are a great way of keeping older people active and we have witnessed first hand how our residents enjoy these types of events,” the home’s activity coordinator Claire Busuttil said.

The care home also presented a medal to every winner, while the overall winning team snagged a celebratory trophy.

Refreshments and light snack were served to all the participants and spectators who had gathered to see their loved ones in action.
