[WATCH] Maltese rower breaks world record in indoor rowing

20-year-old Juan Farrugia broke a new world record in rowing concept 2,500 metres on slides, last Saturday in Valletta

20-year-old Juan Farrugia, from Valletta, broke a new world record in rowing concept 2,500 metres on slides, within the age group of 20-29.

Juan participated in the Maltco indoor rowing challenge, which took place last Saturday, in Valletta; a challenge which has been held for three years in a row and is part of the European Week of Sports organised by SportMalta and Maltco Lotteries.

Juan broke the previous world record of 1.19.6, finishing the race in 1.18.7 – a great national achievement. The dedicated athlete already won the National Championship, as well as the 500m British Championship and also participated in the World Games in Poland.

Present for the world record breaking event were Dr Chris Connett, Hon Clifton Grima, Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sports and Voluntary Organisations, Vasilleios Kasiotakis, CEO of Maltco Lotteries and David A Gatt, Maltco Lotteries Director and his coach Ken Lake, who all congratulated Juan on his “abilities and achievement”, auguring him “further success in his future”.
