12-year-old Russian sailor wins Euromed 2012

Artem Sudakov a 12-year-old member of the Rautu Yacht Club from Moscow won the 13th Edition of the Euromed Malta Championship 2012 which came to an end on Saturday evening with the presentation of awards ceremony held at the Seabank Resort & Spa, the 4-days Championship’s Official Hotel.

The Event was mainly an Optimists Class event where only sailors under the age of 16 years were eligible to contest. However older sailors raced in the Laser 4.7 and Radial classes and the RS Feva class where in both categories there were male and female participants.

Taking the Overall Results of the Championship the winners of the top three places in each category were:

Optimist Open & Cadet Class - 1st Artem Sudakov (RUS116), 2nd Omry Sela (ISR322) and 3rd Thomas Bonello Ghio (MLT28). 72 participants contested this class.

Optimist Novice Class - 1st Gabriella Mifsud (MTA20), 2nd Claudio Defontes (ITA7567) and 3rd Matteo Canova (ITA8134). 12 participants contested this class.

Laser Radial Class - 1st Alexandr Denisiuc (MOL180000), 2nd Benjamin Vadnai (HUN201672) and 3rd Luka Zelko Zan (SLO13). 12 participants contested this class.

Laser 4.7 Class - 1st Ella Fleri Soler (MTL179130), 2nd Arina Niktina (RUS196335) and 3rd Tom Zammit Tabona (MTL177839). 13 participants contested this class.

Feva Class - 1st Elliott Wells/Jack Todd (GBR4332), 2nd Andrew Mifsud/Michela Mifsud (MLT4285) and 3rd JamieSmith/Piers Nicholls (GBR4883). 9 teams contested this class where each boat was sailed by a helmsman and one crew.

Russia represented by 30 sailors won a special award as the foreign country with the biggest number of participants where in all 127 young sailors contested the 2012 Championship.

The Malta Euromed Championship was organised by the Malta Young Sailors Club with the cooperation of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and the Mellieħa Local Council and held under the patronage of the Malta Sailing Federation. While the Seabank Resort & Spa was the Championship's Official Hotel the Mexico Restaurant, the ex Tunny Net, was the event's Headquarters.
