The objective of the competition was not only to evaluate the photographic capability of entrants but also to identify who best captured the nature of sailing the the event by visually communicating the power, grace and beauty of the sea and the sport.

The organisers were pleasantly surprised not only with the response in terms of participation but also at the level of creativity put into the submissions. This was echoed also by the Judging Panel which was made up of award winning and internationally renowned photographers Kurt Arrigo, Nico Martinez and Rene Rossignaud.

In order to ensure a fair competition to all, entrants were asked to submit photographs taken from the view points accessible to the general public. Apart from the points awarded by the Judging Panel,   entries also had a twenty five percent weighting from the general public and points were given according to the number of ‘likes’ garnered.

The winners of the competition were Christian Mangion, Paul Tickle and Adele Muscat winning the first three prizes respectively. The winners were presented with a number of prizes, including photography courses by leading photographer Rene Rossignaud as well as copies of his book Rene Rossignaud - The First Thirteen years. Other prizes include exclusive RC44 Valletta Cup merchandise and a copy of renowned award winning photographer Kurt Arrigo’s book - Malta A Coastal Journey. Another prize was awarded to Joseph B. Muscat for garnering the most engagement on Facebook.

“We were thrilled with the interest and response generated by this competition as well as the quality of submissions received,” said Niki Travers Tauss, Director, Yachting Events Ltd. “We are sure that the RC44 Valletta Cup will leave good memories for these photographers, and hopefully we will see more of their work in the next edition of the RC44 Valletta Cup which is confirmed for 2016”.
