Rear Commodore Marine Operations Arthur Podesta has passed away, the Royal Malta Yacht Club announced.

Podesta was a long-standing member of the Royal Malta Yacht Club committee, having acted in many roles including that of Commodore.

The RMYC said Podesta will be remembered for his love of sailing and as a regular competitor in local and foreign regattas. "His association with the Rolex Middle Sea Race goes back to the very start, when he was a crew member on Josian, winner of the inaugural race in 1968.  Arthur was the only sailor to compete in all previous editions of this race."

Podesta was possibly the longest standing member of the RMYC committee having served for many years and as an active sailor, was a regular participant in club events and the Rolex Middle Sea Race often with all three of his children.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club extended its condolences to Podesta’s family in such a difficult time.
