14-year-old Helene Pellicano has won the Junior European Tennis Championship in Pilzen, Czech Republic.

Sports Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius congratulated Pellicano and remarked that she is the first Maltese tennis player to win the junior championship.

Pellicano won her final match against Czech Denia Hindova with a final score of 6-4, 6-1.

Pellicano won four straight sets in the competition to ultimately reach the final, after facing Croatian Noa Krznaric in the semi-final, whre she won with a final score of 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

She is expected to retain her position when the European rankings are updated next Tuesday.
