The prettiest WAGs of this World Cup

A month of anticipation, as the world waited to find out which country was going win the most prestigious title in world football, drew to a close two Sundays ago with Germany defeating Argentina in the final to win their first World Cup as a unified nation. However, if you think the awards have all been handed out, think again! Sunday newspaper Illum has analysed the wives and girlfriends of the players on show last month and, after deep consultation and background checks, has come up with a list of who they believe to be the prettiest ten.   

1. Antonella Roccuzzo

Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi is considered by many to be the best footballer in the world. He has already won several prizes in football and he will now also need to make space in his trophy cabinet for this latest accolade, that of having the prettiest WAG of the tournament. Antonella and Lionel have been together since 2008 and, on the 12 November 2012, they had a boy whom they named Thiago.

2. Melissa Satta

Kevin-Prince Boateng’s Ghana squad may have not impressed but the AC Milan player’s girlfriend has won the silver medal here. The Italian-American is a TV presenter and a communications expert and also took part in the famous Italian TV series ‘Striscia La Notizia’. Satta entered the spotlight when her boyfriend suffered a thigh injury and she attributed it to the amount of sex the two had been having, supposedly between seven and ten times a week.

3. Irina Shayk

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been with his Russian model girlfriend since 2010. Apart from modelling, Shayk also made her debut in cinema this year when she played the role of Hercules’ wife in the film ‘Hercules’.

4. Sara Carbonero

The Spanish TV presenter and sports journalist has been with Spain’s goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas since 2009. Apparently, during the 2010 World Cup, while Sara was reporting on the game between Spain and Switzerland, she somehow distracted Casillas in a way that led to Switzerland’s ultimately decisive goal.

5. Shakira

The 37 year-old world-famous singer has been releasing songs since 1990. In 2010, she started going out with Spanish defender Gerard Pique. On the 22 January 2013, the couple had a baby boy whom they named Milan.
