Meridianbet has a strong message for all women

In the wake of yet another deplorable case of violence against women, one of Malta’s leading companies reminds women that they are not alone

It has been estimated that a significant number of women have experienced some form of harassment — whether this be verbal, physical or sexual — both in the workplace and in their personal lives. It is important to note that violence against women can manifest in a variety of ways, not just through physical acts.

Stop violence against women!

For a number of years, Meridianbet has been making efforts to highlight this issue and raise awareness of the need to combat this worrying social phenomenon. According to the betting giant, this has formed part of an ongoing effort to address gender equality, not only when a particular incident brings this issue to greater public awareness.

As part of this strategy, the company has sought to operate as a socially responsible organisation for more than two decades, highlighting the importance of gender equality and economic empowerment of women both through their company structure and zero tolerance approach to discrimination in the workplace.

Women in charge at Meridianbet

As a predominantly tech company, Meridianbet’s forward-thinking approach appears to extend beyond their activities in industry, with the company stressing the importance of its role as a talent hub and equal opportunities employer.

Women account for more than 55% of Meridianbet’s top management, a diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) figure which exceeds many other companies. This number is even higher in African and European markets, where female management accounts for 62% and 56% of personnel respectively.

At Meridianbet, women are represented across all areas of business, including human resources, marketing, retail and software development, a factor seemingly in line with the company’s assertion that economic empowerment of women remains a vital component in achieving gender equality. Indeed, the company is keen to stress that the UN slogan, “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Future Tomorrow” is one the company practises on a daily basis as part of both its hiring and operational activities.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the company emphasises that addressing this problem must be a priority, not only for state authorities, but also for the business community — a sector which has a significant role to play in promoting cultural values, tolerance and respect.

Remember, violence has no justification and you are not alone, report it!
