Valletta ushers in the Christmas spirit with Christmas street light installation

The Valletta 2018 Foundation together with the Republic Street Business Community launched Christmas lights along Republic Street by Faniuolo Illuminazione.

The Valletta 2018 Foundation ushered in the Christmas spirit Friday evening in Valletta by lighting the Christmas street light installation in Republic Street. The lights, made by Italian light artists Faniuolo Illuminazione, were purposefully built to complement Valletta’s architecture.

Valletta 2018 Foundation Jason Micallef said “This night is another testament how the Valletta 2018 Foundation is ensuring that activities in Valletta take place. Today, Valletta has become an attraction for all four seasons, all year round.”

The Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici said “Valletta sees various people passing through it every day, and it will remain active as a hub where people meet each other and create beautiful memories together.”

The Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Valletta 2018 Deo Debattista said “Valletta 2018 is well established in next year’s calendar. This is the Christmas before the European Capital of Culture year where everyone who will be visiting Valletta during this time will be reminded that we are right round the corner from this huge and historic event.”

The artist group Faniuolo Illuminazione, founded in 1875, has a vast repertoire of light installations in various countries. For Valletta, the group has designed special site-specific installations combining tradition and innovation, while also maintaining eco-sustainability.

The Christmas Lights are part of a collaboration between Valletta 2018 and the Republic Street Business Community Association.
