MSc in Structural Engineering

Partner and senior structural engineer, Lino Micallef, was awarded an MSc in Structural Engineering from the University of Surrey

Lino Micallef, currently partner and senior structural engineer at ARCHI+ Architects’ Studio, was awarded an MSc in Structural Engineering from the University of Surrey, UK.

His research, entitled ‘Seismic and Wind Load Assessment of Low-to-Medium Rise Steel Structures’, carried out by Distance Learning, focused on the behaviour of steel moment frame structures, subjected to seismic and wind actions.

His findings gave evidence that low-to-medium rise structures analysed can be designed safely for wind actions only, omitting the seismic action within low-seismicity zones (0.06g). Malta qualifies as such.

The MSc course of Structural Engineering was partly funded by the Malta Government Scholarship Scheme (MGSS).
