Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson Arnold Cassola and secretary general Ralph Cassar, visited the Malta Book Festival on Friday.

Cassola, a published author and academic said that it  was encouraging to see so many Maltese publishing houses present at the fair and so many people rummaging amongst the great variety of books available.

“The publishing industry has made great strides in Malta and this is indeed a boon to Maltese society in a context where illiteracy
is still a big problem.  A well-read society is a more informed society, and a more informed society is a more democratic one.

“Congratulations to the Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb for the excellent organisation of such an important event.  Zero marks instead to those concerned in government who, after months of painstaking work, forced the organisers to close down the whole Sunday afternoon because of so called security reasons which had been forgotten by the government department concerned.”
